LITERARY FALL 2026
Lutz Seiler “The Ticking Heart”
Reading from the new novel and conversation with Alexander Cammann
“The Ticking Heart” is a romance, an environmental novel, and a novel about a poet: At the dawn of the new millennium, Carl Bischoff returns to Berlin from the Brandenburg countryside, only to set out again soon after. His journey follows that of a Kazakh shaman’s daughter—who seems to have appeared out of nowhere and appears to know almost everything about him. Amsterdam, Rotterdam, the Curonian Spit, and the winter-cold steppes of Kazakhstan are the stops along the way in their fairy-tale-like, magical, yet dubious love story. Following the award-winning bestsellers *Kruso* and *Stern 111*, Lutz Seiler continues the story of his hero’s life, in which world history and personal fate intersect. (Suhrkamp 2026)
Lutz Seiler, born in 1963, grew up in eastern Thuringia.
