“BLUFF IS PART OF OUR FUTURE, EVEN NOW” —said none other than Nils Landgren about three years ago. At that time, the young quartet, based in Hamburg, had already made a name for itself in its North German region. With original compositions and a strong influence from role models across the Atlantic, BLUFF had forged a “signature sound” characterized by a remarkable dynamic range—from rubato ballads à la Keith Jarrett to Immanuel Wilkins-style power pieces, as well as every nuance in between. The four musicians have a blind understanding of one another and literally play off each other, challenging one another, supporting one another, and thereby radiating a joy of playing that spreads to the audience.​

In its five-year history, BLUFF has already toured Germany several times, with highlights at the renowned ELBJAZZ and JazzBaltica festivals. They’ve also made their first forays into Austria and Switzerland. Following the release of their debut album *Sleight of Hand* on BERTHOLD records in early 2023, the quartet—now with one foot in Berlin—is turning a new page. The new compositions are melodic and well-defined, creating musical landscapes across which the band glides as if on skis. This gives rise to entirely new paths and twists during the improvisational moments.
