Lesung und Diskussion: Transmedia Festivals (Böhlau, 2025)

Transmedia festivals are a hybrid event format that has established itself in the 21st century in urban spaces across Europe and around the world. They showcase works by the artistic avant-garde that have emerged from experiments in art music as well as pop and club culture. Here, cultural practices, lifestyles, audio-social communities, soundscapes, media, and technologies come to light, as do dynamics, ideologies, and power structures that are increasingly based on the dismantling of social safety nets and on monopolization. “Transmedia Festivals” highlights the fascination of these hybrid art forms and impressively analyzes the multifaceted challenges and efforts of their protagonists in an increasingly commercialized cultural sector. The result is a multifaceted portrait of artistic and cultural work and its interweaving with the transformative processes of the present.

The event will begin with excerpts from the book presented in a series of multi-voiced readings. Following this, organizers from Off The Radar, Parpiripar Festival, tba, and the author will discuss the challenges of presenting experimental formats and content today.

The event will open and close with records played by DJ Pult and Jukebox Utopia.
