Lesung // Monika Geier: »Ein schönes Kind«
In the organizer's words:
Monika Geier is an author who restores something to the crime novel that it sometimes loses: curiosity. Not just about solving a mystery, but about people, their contradictions, and the stories they hide from one another.
In *Ein schönes Kind*, set designer Marlie Eichhorn is searching for the perfect filming location for a new series on behalf of a television production company. In the Palatinate, she discovers an old villa that, at first glance, offers everything television needs: atmosphere, history, and a touch of mystery. But behind the walls of this house lies a past that is by no means over.
Marlie soon realizes that in this interplay of memories, staging, and reality, not everyone is telling the truth. Amid the preparations for a seemingly harmless television production and the house’s dark secrets, a crime novel unfolds that plays with expectations and continually opens up new perspectives.
Monika Geier combines classic mystery, subtle suspense, and subtle humor. Fans of Agatha Christie may rediscover the joy of the locked-room mystery and the thrill of careful deduction. Yet Monika Geier takes this tradition in a direction all her own: quirkier, more modern, and with a keen eye for the small absurdities of everyday life.
A novel about old secrets, new images, and the question of how much truth a good story can withstand.
A collaboration between Buchhandlung 213 and HausDrei.
