Following our successful production of “Prima Facie,” we would like to continue exploring similar themes in the upcoming season with the second play by author Suzie Miller—“Inter Alia.”
Jessica Parks is a judge specializing in cases of sexual violence; her husband is a Crown prosecutor; and they love their son Harry more than anything—seemingly the perfect family. Until Harry is accused of rape by a classmate after a party. Suddenly, Jessica finds herself torn between two roles: the judge fighting for justice, and the mother who wants to protect her child. She knows how her son has the best chance of being acquitted. But at the same time, doing so would betray everything she has stood for throughout her entire professional career.
Should Jessica fight for her son, no matter what he did? Is Harry even guilty? Can she be both a judge and the mother of a rapist? Has she failed as a mother? And what image of masculinity is his father conveying to him?
