Generations on Screen | Filmprogramm zum Werkleitz Festival 2026 + Filmgespräch
In the organizer's words:
The seven films in the program explore relationships from a personal perspective, while also tracing the underlying connections that exist across generations. What unites all these works is a narrative direction that begins in the private sphere and reveals, within the fabric of everyday life, what is more than just private.
The films deal with the sheer duration of shared life, which, while marked by compromises, can nonetheless be infused with the rhythm of a waltz. They explore the experience of being tossed from one system to another and the quest for balance between doubt, conformity, and self-denial. Time and again, the focus is on the impact of the intergenerational transmission of trauma and how this cycle can be broken.
If one were to identify a common thread running through these otherwise quite diverse short films—ranging from documentary to experimental to animated—it would be the desire for exchange and understanding—especially where generations no longer seem to speak the same language.
