What do you do when, in your senior year, school isn’t fun, the teachers are a pain, and it’s actually time to grow up? Ferris Bueller solves the problem by taking the day off. And since skipping school alone is boring, he talks his friends Cameron and Sloane into joining him. They take Cameron’s dad’s Ferrari, go on a wild joyride through Chicago, and do all the things adults do—but in their own youthful way. If only it weren’t for Principal Rooney, who’s long had it in for Ferris and is just waiting to finally catch him red-handed.

And all of this in what is perhaps one of the most intelligent teen comedies ever to hit our theaters. Because *FERRIS BUELLER’S DAY OFF* does without the genre’s typical over-the-top slapstick, is never preachy, yet prompts reflection on one’s own way of life. At the same time, it’s arguably one of the best feel-good movies of the 1980s, consistently told from the perspective of teenagers.
