In the organizer's words:
Emilia Roig, who holds a Ph.D. in political science, published a widely discussed book titled *Why We Matter: The End of Oppression*, in which she draws on her family history to describe how systems of power and oppression reproduce themselves, but also how they can be combated. Roig, a French citizen—the daughter of a Jewish-Algerian father and a mother from Martinique—has been living, teaching, writing, and working in Berlin for 20 years. Her new book, *Dear Son, or How to Save the World*, is a plea for radical care as an antidote to capitalist boundary-less expansion and proto-fascist movements. “I am writing to you because I believe that you—that all of us—can choose a different path.” Roig adopts the epistolary form already used by James Baldwin and Ta-Nehisi Coates to address the next generation—in the hope that this message in a bottle will wash ashore for many people and open their eyes.
