Ein Abend über die großen Fragen der Kriminologie - mit Gina Rosa Wollinger und Nicole Bögelein
In the organizer's words:
Crime is a constant presence. Even those who have done nothing wrong themselves read about crimes in their immediate surroundings, about sensational criminal cases, successful manhunts and trials, listens with bated breath to popular “true crime” podcasts—and follows the political debates on fighting crime, prevention, and dealing with offenders.
Cologne-based criminologists Nicole Bögelein (University of Cologne) and Gina Rosa Wollinger (German Police University) ask, as researchers: How criminal is Germany? How are violent crimes evolving? Is “everything really getting worse”? How do the police and courts deal with crime? The book also discusses exemplary cases.
In their book “True Criminology” (Dietz Publishing, 304 pages, 20 euros) and their own podcast of the same name, Bögelein and Wollinger provide additional facts and background information for a debate free of myths.
On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, they will present their book in a conversation with moderator Joachim Frank, DuMont’s chief correspondent, at the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger” Workstage. Following the moderated discussion, the audience is invited to ask questions.
The Workstage at the Neven DuMont Haus, Amsterdamer Str. 192, 50735 Cologne, are easily accessible by public transportation (lines 13 and 16 to the Amsterdamer Straße/Gürtel stop). Free parking is available in the employee parking lot on Amsterdamer Strasse.
