Cuatro Pesos de Propina, founded in 2000 in Montevideo (Uruguay) and active in its current lineup since 2004, has continued to evolve as an independent band. Their sound blends ska, rock, reggae-dub, cumbia, gypsy-punk, mestizo music, and a variety of genre fusions—heavily influenced by Uruguay’s popular singer-songwriters.

In 2007, they released their debut album “Se está complicando,” self-produced and co-produced by Chole Giannotti, featuring guest artists such as Fermín Muguruza, Pitufo Lombardo, and Queso Magro.
This was followed in 2010 by their second album, “Juan,” also released independently and under the artistic direction of Fernando Goicoechea (known for his work with José Carbajal “El Sabalero”).

In early 2013, the band released their third studio album, “Surcando,” produced by Francisco Fattoruso and featuring contributions from renowned musicians such as Hugo Fattoruso, Andrea Echeverry, and Damny Baluteau (LA PHAZE).

In 2015, they released their first DVD, “Muerto pero Vivo,” a documentary film about the band’s activities at that time, directed by Rodrigo Labella. In the following years, they released singles such as “Hardcore el mambo” and “Sigo Creyendo” (2017), as well as “La Llama,” “La embestida,” and “Yamanteri” (2018), which were later included on the 2019 album *LA LLAMA*.

In 2021, Cuatro Pesos de Propina presented the documentary *Del Camino*, which chronicles the making of *LA LLAMA* and their tours through Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Paraguay. Also in 2021, they released their latest album, “Respirar una vez más”—further evidence of their energetic live presence and their unique, genre-blending style.
