In the organizer's words:
On June 20, we start our Summer of Carpenter. From then on, we will be presenting a selection from John Carpenter's extensive filmography. Of course, we can't show you every one of his films, but at least we have Escape From New York, Christine, Prince of Darkness, Starman, Big Trouble in Little China, They Live, The Village of the Damned and Ghosts of Mars on offer. So we don't want to hear any complaints.
On June 27, we continue with the killer car Christine. The movie is based on a book by Stephen King. Carpenter and King sounds like a good combination.
Schoolboy Arnie Cunningham falls in love with "Christine", not the local school beauty, but a car, a 1958 Plymouth Fury that has seen its best days. Arnie compensates for his outsider status at school by working on the vehicle, which is in need of repair. Arnie becomes obsessed with getting the car back on the road and restoring it to its original condition. However, it is not only the car that changes, but also himself. At first, everything seems to have only positive effects. Arnie no longer puts up with everything. However, his new self-confidence also has negative traits because he is no longer as understanding as he used to be. His friend Dennis suffers as a result. When a couple of hooligans led by Buddy Repperton make the mistake of attacking "Christine", the consequences are horrific.

High school student Arnie Cunningham falls in love with "Christine"-not the local school beauty, but a car: a 1958 Plymouth Fury that has seen better days. Working on the vehicle-which is in desperate need of repair-allows Arnie to cope with his status as a school outcast. He becomes obsessed with getting the car running again and restoring it to its original condition. Yet, in the process, it is not just the car that changes, but Arnie himself. At first, the effects seem entirely positive; Arnie stops letting people push him around. However, his newfound self-confidence also has a downside, as he is no longer as understanding as he used to be-something his friend Dennis suffers for. When a group of thugs led by Buddy Repperton makes the mistake of messing with "Christine," the consequences are gruesome.
