“Horsepower,” released on R&S Records in 1991, launched CJ Bolland’s career as a producer. Growing up in Antwerp with parents who owned a club, Christian Jay Bolland helped bridge Belgium’s new beat legacy with the futuristic sounds coming out of Detroit from artists like Juan Atkins and Jeff Mills, helping to create an acid rave sound that would spread across Europe.
Drawn to dance music by acid house in the late ’80s and shaped by working alongside figures like Detroit’s Derrick May is London-based Cisco Ferreira, aka The Advent. The name was initially shared by Cisco and Colin McBean, also known as Mr. G, before Cisco continued it as a solo project in the late ’90s. Both CJ and Cisco released music on R&S Records during the same era and even collaborated under the moniker Space Opera in the late ’80s—arguably Cisco’s first stepping stone into a career in dance music. Now the two are sharing the booth once more for one of our final events on Museumsinsel.
Philippa Pacho came of age in Stockholm’s underground scene: illegal parties, Sthlm Murder Girls, and a residency at Under Bron, where she cut her teeth before relocating to Berlin in 2014. Her sets, which she once described as “warm, groovy, repetitive, with an old-school feel but meeting the new school,” bridge both ends of this lineup.
Rounding out the program is our resident Polygonia. A DJ, producer, live performer, label operator, and visual artist driven by a curiosity that has never settled on a single form, sound, or stage format.
