Bestellte Erinnerung – Über den Mythos der Iskra-Gedenkstätte in Leipzig
In the organizer's words:
The audio project “Commissioned Memory” takes a critical look at the history of the former Iskra Memorial in Leipzig-Probstheida. The focus is on the origins of the memorial site, the printing of the first issue of the Russian exile newspaper *Iskra* in Leipzig—a fact that remains unconfirmed to this day—and the fate of the Niegel family, who had to give up their home and workshop to make way for the memorial.
After more than a year of research, project leaders Diana Wesser and David Schönherr are presenting the audio piece to the public for the first time. Accompanying the presentation, Dr. Johanna Sänger (Leipzig Museum of City History) and Falk Elstermann (Leipzig Cultural Foundation) will provide insights into the scholarly research and historical analysis.
