Calm Amid the Storms of Everyday Life
with Anando Würzburger

Seminar Description

The high demands of everyday life and learned patterns of inner tension lead to imbalance and stress, which can manifest in the long term as mental or physical illnesses. In the Far Eastern traditions of China and Japan, bodywork and meditation techniques have been refined to help the body, soul, and mind achieve an optimal, healthy balance. In this training, we will learn how the distribution and flow of energy within the body can be restored to a healthy harmony between the body’s self-healing and self-regulating forces.

Breath connects the body with the mind and carries prana—the cosmic life energy—through the body. Through abdominal breathing, we can bring the psyche into balance and calm the mind.

Grounding is the foundation for healthy energy flow. When we experience stress or intense anxiety, we literally lose “the ground beneath our feet.” Thus, grounding is a way to learn to “keep our feet on the ground.” We draw strength from it and can release tension and stress.

Our physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional balance resides in the hara ( Japanese for “belly”). When we center ourselves in the hara, we connect to an inner source of strength. It is rooted in the peace and stillness of our center. The mystic Osho described the hara as “the source of life.” When energy flows freely through the hara, the body’s self-regulation functions optimally.

Content and Learning Objectives

We will learn Hara movement and breathing techniques, as well as how to center ourselves in the Hara. This makes it possible to give emotional states space within the body and, as a result, find relaxation. Emotional energy is transformed and enriches our body. Centering in the Hara thus gives us an inner strength in our daily lives that rests in stillness.
