Parties in Erlangen - university city with real nightlife character
Erlangen is small, but not quiet. The university city in the Nuremberg metropolitan region is what many student cities would like to be: manageable enough to know everyone, but lively enough to never really have to go to bed early. The nightlife here benefits directly from the university: tens of thousands of students ensure that the clubs work just as well during the week as they do at the weekend, and the events calendar is well-filled all year round. And then there's the Bergkirchweih, Erlangen's folk festival, which gets the city dancing every year in early summer and then flows seamlessly into legendary after-mountain parties. Anyone who knows Erlangen knows that the mountain is not the end of the evening. At most, it's the beginning. One of the best-known locations is the Zirkel in Hauptstraße: a party cellar with real vaulted charm, open since November 1999 and still an integral part of Erlangen's nightlife today. Tuesdays are student days, Thursdays are cocktail pyramid days, Fridays are electro days and on the weekends of the Berg, the Zirkel runs until dawn. The after-mountain parties here are legendary and anyone who has ever stood in line in front of the Zirkel in a dirndl or lederhosen knows why. Paisley at Nürnberger Straße 15 is the club that everyone in Erlangen knows: open from 10 p.m. from Thursdays to Saturdays, with club banging Saturdays across hip-hop, house, 90s and 2000s. Recently, Paisley has even undergone a little dramaturgy: a brief closure announcement, refurbishment and relaunch with a fresh design and adjusted prices. The result: the club is back in full swing and as popular as ever. The E-Werk cultural center on Fuchsenwiese is the heart of Erlangen's cultural scene: for over 35 years, it has been one of the most important socio-cultural trendsetters in the region, with ten different rooms, club nights, concerts, readings, cinema and a beer garden that becomes an extended living room for half the city in summer. Parties in the basement stage, college nights for one euro admission and Berg-Werk marathons in June: the E-Werk always has a good reason to come by. If you like things a little more mature, Erlkoenig at Nürnberger Straße 1 is the place to be: Fridays and Saturdays from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., 25 and over welcome and no strict dress code. Not a student party, but an evening among like-minded people who simply want to have a good time. Erlangen is compact, friendly and has a party scene that has retained its own identity despite its proximity to Nuremberg.
