Slogans like this are widespread among fans and reflect the religious linguistic world of soccer. But is it just marketing or journalism? Or is there more to it than that, when terms such as fan derive from fanaticus - a person driven to frenzy - and fanaticism is one of the dark sides of soccer culture today? The lecture will examine from a social and religious studies perspective the substance of talk of soccer as a religion and what conclusions can be drawn from this for soccer and religion.
