The little man on the street—he’s still a person just like you and me. So let’s ask him: Why is the little man always on the street, anyway? Doesn’t he have a home? And just how little is he, exactly? Does the people always strive for greatness because it’s made up entirely of little men?
What does the people actually want? Do they even know? Or what they are? Is there such a thing as “people’s knowledge” alongside the “will of the people”? And what do you tell the people? Besides: “Follow!”
Now there’s someone who knows all of this. After all, the people are Severin! Or the sovereign? Whatever. This is going to be a people-filled encounter. With folksy justifications. Nothing here will be left without a people. Volkasko unsettles people, so to speak. In return, there’s whole-grain bread and games. Because here comes an autocrat to adore.
Someone for whom arbitrariness comes before duty. Just someone like you and me.
