QUBUR
In the organizer's words:
Founded in Osnabrück in 2018, the band Qubur is a quartet consisting of saxophone, piano/keyboards, bass, and drums. With the exception of the drummer, all band members also play effects, creating a unique band sound.
The band’s core mission is to play jazz without succumbing to improvisational “show-off” tendencies. It’s about the deep connection the musicians share with one another and with the audience. Simplicity and understated beauty always prevail over artificial complexity and technical showmanship in this band. Nevertheless, the music never comes across as mundane. The classical background of most of the band members is particularly evident in dynamic and rhythmic subtleties. As a result, the band’s dynamic range is very broad, extending from chamber music-style playing to a loud, full-band sound. Thanks to the band members’ diverse experiences, their agogic playing is highly developed. The pieces written by pianist Linus Haagen are woven together during concerts into a cohesive whole that is often calm and meditative, yet can also transform into more animated or even ecstatic states depending on the mood and the audience.
