Anti-European racism: a gap in the discourse?

This is the question addressed in the book "Anti-Semitic Racism in Germany - Past and Present" by Jannis Panagiotidis and Hans-Christian Petersen. With Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, the topic of anti-European racism/anti-Slavism is becoming increasingly important in social and academic discourse. What has long been part of everyday life for many people has long been a blank space in research and anti-racist discourse. The book now argues for precisely this: an eastward expansion of the debate on racism.

In the PERSPEKTYWY 2.0 event, Petersen will present central theses from the book and discuss the terms, history and dimensions of this form of discrimination. The thematic impulse will be followed by a moderated discussion with the academic and co-author.

PD Dr. Hans-Christian Petersen is a historian of Eastern Europe at the Federal Institute for Culture and History of the Germans in Eastern Europe. His research focuses on topics such as anti-European/anti-Slavic racism, Russian-German history and post-(eastern) migrant society.

postausost is a collective that makes post-Eastern voices visible in the Hanover area. During its meetings, the collective deals with its own migration history in a post-migrant society. The collective defines PostOst as Russian-German, Eastern European and post-Soviet. Through discussions, joint visits to events and the organization of its own formats, postausost offers a space for exchange and coming together.
