Northern Lights
In the organizer's words:
The Beyenburg Abbey Friends Association and the “unmuted” choir invite you to a concert titled “Northern Lights” at the Beyenburg Abbey Church. On Sunday, June 28, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., the women’s chamber choir, conducted by Julia Reckendrees, will present its current program. Free admission; donations collected at the exit will benefit the choir and the Beyenburg Monastery Friends Association.
With the women’s chamber choir “unmuted,” the gems of choral music
in the most wonderful timbres. The semiprofessional ensemble was founded during the COVID-19 pandemic and has since dedicated itself to classical and contemporary repertoire. Experienced professional musicians sing alongside highly talented amateur singers, embodying femininity in all its facets.
The voices are just as at home in ethereal, delicate melodic weavings as they are in powerful spoken-word chants. Conductor Julia Reckendrees creates a very special sonic space with the ensemble—a symbiosis of musical precision and emotional authenticity.
Join “unmuted” on a journey to the “Northern Lights”—the most beautiful compositions from Latvia, Finland, Sweden, and Norway. The program includes works by Ola Gjeilo, Laura Jēkabsone, and Arvo Pärt, among others. A German composer, Simon Wawer, is also featured. After all, the Northern Lights are even visible in the sky over Germany…
