As part of the summer festival“Shifting Grounds – IN COMMON,”local dancinginvitesyou to join in and dance local dances together, accompanied by live keyboard music. These include, for example, the 5-5-5-5-5 dance, the Summertime Sadness dance, the Fairy dance, and the Procession dance. Drawing on queer tradition and a specially invented “instant tradition,” local dancing reimagines popular group dances that seem to have traveled through time and now appear in non-binary and unpaired forms. Unbound by national ties, the dances pretend to be local wherever they are. They give us a reason to come together and be held within the repetition and routine of a circular choreography.
