Italian pop culture in the open air

When summer transforms the courtyard of the Historical Museum into an open piazza, the hmf frequenz format brings Italian pop and disco sounds to the city center. Under the title "Sotto le stelle" - under the stars - the evening is all about the Italo pop and disco culture of the 1980s and its attitude to life, which still has an impact today.

At the heart of the musical program is the live act GiGi Girls, who will bring the characteristic sound of this era to the stage with Italo pop classics. The evening will be complemented by DJ sets from Andrea Escudo, who will kick things off, and the Berlin duo Witch Watching, who will lead the way through the rest of the summer night with disco, wave and Italo tracks.

While people dance and party in the courtyard, the exhibitions will also remain open. The result is a summer evening that combines urban history and pop culture.

Andrea Escudo, DJ

Andrea Escudo, vinyl DJ from Ingolstadt, based in Frankfurt since 2022. He is constantly on the lookout for secret hits, the forgotten and missed highlights of supranational dance history.

GiGi Girls, Live Band

The GiGi Girls are an Italo-pop band from Cologne that combines the nostalgic sound of 80s Italo-pop with modern dream-pop. Founded by Laura Mancini and Janosch Pugnaghi and joined by Hannah Berle, the GiGi Girls combine personal stories, Italian pop influences and contemporary production aesthetics. Their live shows stand for club atmosphere, audience proximity and an accessible stage presence. Since 2023, they have built up a strong live reputation (e.g. c/o pop, Schauspielhaus Cologne). Their debut album "GiGi Girls - Greatest Hits" was released on 17.04.2026.

Witch Watching, DJs

Klara and Natalie from Witchwatching are a FLINTA DJ duo and have been playing in various venues and events in and around Berlin since 2016. Their style has developed organically over the years: From post-punk, new wave and 80s to a diverse mix of disco, world music, electroclash and dance punk. The two love to create a lively and danceable atmosphere with their sets.
Since 2024, they have been members of the Sonic Sisters Society, a FLINTA DJ collective with a focus on non-electronic music.

Catering

The IMA Clique runs the SHUKA BAR, an aperitivo bar with a focus on fast, high-quality Italian drinks. Taglio complements the culinary concept with Roman pizza al taglio, focaccia and antipasti - uncomplicated, mostly vegan finger food.
