Big Band Burghausen

A jazz metropolis lies directly on the Salzach, on the border between Germany and Austria: Burghausen, known for its Jazz Week, which attracts stars and newcomers year after year, for workshops, young talent competitions and a big band that follows in the tradition of great jazz orchestras and has developed into a brand all of its own over almost half a century. Now the Big Band Burghausen is making another guest appearance at the Unterfahrt and is being joined by the director of the Jazz Institute of the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts, the great trumpeter Claus Reichstaller.

Reichstaller will bring along arrangements from his repertoire and present material selected by the Burghauseners for their upcoming season.

The CV of the Burghausen Big Band, which has been led by Wolfgang Pietsch since 2002, contains a proud list of names. Joe Viera, Al Porcino and Rudi Fuesers have all been responsible for the fortunes of the large ensemble. The Upper Bavarians have also been able to attract prominent soloists such as Lee Harper, Peter Tuscher, Herman Breuer, Allan Praskin, Roman Schwaller and Leszek Zadlo to perform with them.

The Big Band Burghausen impresses with its powerful, multi-layered sound and its stylistic range.
