Five decades on the world's great stages - and not a trace of standstill: in the 26/27 season, the "Queen of Violin" Anne-Sophie Mutter celebrates her extraordinary stage anniversary. For half a century, the four-time Grammy winner has been a driving force in international musical life - as a soloist, chamber musician, mentor, commissioner of new music and now also as a producer. "I made a conscious decision not just to preserve tradition, but to keep music alive, to renew it and to pass it on," she says.
Together with the Vienna-Berlin Chamber Orchestra, the star violinist presents an exciting program. Founded in 2008, the ensemble, consisting of leading members of the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras, fascinates with its unique musical ideal. Sir Simon Rattle laid the foundation stone for this ensemble with his wish to conduct a joint concert by the two orchestras for his 50th birthday. Since then, the musicians have come together regularly.
At Pro Arte, Anne-Sophie Mutter and the top orchestra will present a program that builds bridges - from Mozart to modern soundscapes to a very personal work by André Previn. The focus is on two works close to the violinist's heart: Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 1 in B flat major - a piece of playful elegance - and the famous Violin Concerto No. 5 in A major K. 219, the so-called "Turkish". For Anne-Sophie Mutter, this is a highlight of Mozart's oeuvre: "Here he experiments with numerous new ideas. It is the boldest, most multi-layered concerto, full of abrupt changes of mood."
