Alles Wissen Wollen. Die Stasi und ihre Unterlagen

In the organizer's words:

For 40 years, the Socialist Unity Party of Germany ruled the GDR. A central pillar of its dictatorship was the Ministry for State Security (MfS): the Stasi. It was a secret police force, investigative agency and foreign intelligence service all in one; it spied on, manipulated and monitored - it wanted to know everything. The Stasi was disbanded in the course of the Peaceful Revolution.

The evidence of its activities, such as documents, index cards, tapes and photos, was largely preserved. Cataloging these millions of documents and making them available for reappraisal is the legal mandate of the Stasi Records Archive. It has been part of the Federal Archives since 2021.

The traveling exhibition shows 21 objects from the Stasi Records Archive's holdings in seven display cases. These include a Stasi planning map that was produced to monitor the visit of Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt and GDR head of state and party leader Erich Honecker to Güstrow in 1981, during which almost 5,000 Stasi officers were deployed. QR codes on the display cases provide historical and biographical background information as well as deeper insights into the ideology, structure and methods of the Stasi.

The exhibition in the foyer of the Brandenburg State Parliament is open from July 8 to September 2, Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. The Landtag is closed on public holidays.
