GIUSEPPE VERDI Messa da Requiem

The premiere of the Messa da Requiem in 1874 marked a turning point in Giuseppe Verdi's oeuvre, who had been concentrating on his career as an opera composer for more than 30 years at this point. However, the death of the famous poet and writer Alessandro Manzoni, whose name is inextricably linked with Italian reunification, the Rissorgimento, moved the maestro di Busseto so much that he created one of the most spectacular works of musical literature with his monumental requiem mass. The furious drama of the dies irae is unparalleled in literature, and the painful world-rapture of the beginning is one of the most ingenious moments in music history.
