House Dance

In this class, we’ll dive into the foundations of House Dance, exploring both solo movement and dancing together. We will focus on the basic steps, variations and grooves, while developing musicality, individual expression, and connection through movement and a collective experience of the music. Born in the clubs of NYC in the 1980ies and 90ies, House Dance is a dance form where individual expression and collective energy merge. Come ready to sweat and get down!

Sora is a dancer and DJ based in Vienna. Her focus lies on the dance style House Dance, community-building and club culture, moving at the intersection of dance and music. For over ten years she has been active in the street and club style scene, shaping it through community work, event curation, and teaching regular classes and workshops. Sora works as a performer, choreographer, dance educator and organizer.

With a background in cultural sociology and anthropology, Sora's artistic practice engages with the social and cultural dimensions of music and dance. Particular emphasis is placed on societal contexts, questions of collectivity, and interdisciplinary approaches.

As a performer and dancer she has been active on various stages in Austria and internationally, including WUK Wien, brut Wien, ImPulsTanz Festival, Kultursommer Wien, Szene Salzburg, ARGE Kultur Salzburg, Le Manège de Reims (FR), TRAFO Contemporary Theatre (HUN), and Purple Dance Festival Berlin (DE). She has worked primarily with companies from the street and club dance context, including Potpourri Dance Company, Hungry Sharks Company and Insomni' Arts.

As a DJ she is part of the duo Voices From Beyond as well as the platform A Party Called JACK – an artistic initiative engaging with club music and club dance culture and their musical and cultural roots. Since 2020 she has been performing as a DJ in Austria and internationally, including at FM4 Radio, Vienna Art Week, Secession Museum Vienna, Lighthouse Festival (HR), Paloma Bar Berlin, and as resident DJ at A Party Called JACK.
