Zukünfte von Gestern: Der Brüsseler Kongress revisited
In the organizer's words:
A discussion featuring archival material on the history of the Brussels Anti-Colonial Congress.
The year 2027 marks the 100th anniversary of theCongress Against Colonial Oppression and Imperialism.
At that time, anti-colonial activists from around the world gathered in Brussels to discuss strategies against colonial oppression, build solidarity, and draft resolutions. Berlin played a central role in this: The organizational preparations were coordinated from the Berlin office ofthe League Against Imperialismon Wilhelmstraße.
The“Futures of Yesterday”project takes this anniversary as an opportunity to shed new light on Berlin’s largely forgotten role in the international anti-imperialist movements of the interwar period—and to connect it to contemporary questions of global justice, solidarity, and collective agency.
As part of this series of events, we will discuss, together with experts from various disciplines, the anticolonial strategies and international connections of that era and their significance for today’s issues of global justice and solidarity.
A guest event as part of the project“Futures of Yesterday: The Brussels Congress and Its Berlin Connections”by Anujah Fernando, Vanessa Amoah Opoku, and Lisa Schank.
