ZU GAST IM GRASSI: GEOGRAPHISCHE GESELLSCHAFT Indien: auf dem Weg zur Weltmacht?
In the organizer's words:
Since gaining independence in 1947, India has been striving for a greater international role. Since the end of the East-West conflict, India has expanded its economic and political relations with the USA and China and is considered an important partner in the Indo-Pacific by Brussels and Berlin. The world's most populous country is also a key player in international climate and environmental negotiations. With economic growth of six to seven percent, India is the fastest growing democracy. However, the majority of the population has not yet benefited from its economic successes. India only ranks at the bottom of the Human Development Index. Dr. habil. Christian Wagner is a Senior Fellow at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin. His research focuses on domestic and foreign policy developments in India and South Asia.
