The GAGA workshop offers a framework in which participants can develop a connection to their body and their imagination. They experience physical sensations, improve their flexibility and endurance, strengthen their agility and explosive power and discover the joy of movement in an open and accepting atmosphere.

During the workshop, participants will be guided through a series of inspiring instructions designed to deepen awareness of the body and heighten sensations. Rather than moving directly from one task to the next, the stimuli build on each other and develop into a multi-layered and physically challenging experience. Although many instructions work with strong images and ideas, the practice of GAGA is primarily physical and based on a conscious process of embodiment. The improvisational nature of the exploration allows each participant to find their own personal connection to GAGA.

Each individual workshop will work with one of the artists over 3 days.

This workshop by Billy Barry is ALL LEVEL - i.e. open to all levels of experience. By varying the exercises, both beginners and advanced dancers can participate.

Every year in mid-July, the TanzFaktur Summer Academy takes place - Cologne's international festival for contemporary dance . The large-scale two-week festival is a platform for top-class national and international artists, projects and collectives.

In addition to the performances, workshops for professionals and dance enthusiasts offer opportunities for exchange between dance professionals and the audience.

Gaga classes offer a framework for users to connect to their bodies and imaginations, experience physical sensations, improve their flexibility and stamina, exercise their agility and explosive power, and enjoy the pleasure of movement in a welcoming, accepting atmosphere.

Throughout the class, participants are guided by a series of evocative instructions deployed to increase awareness of and further amplify sensation. Rather than turning from one prompt to another, information is layered, building into a multisensory, physically challenging experience. While many instructions are imbued with rich imagery, the research of Gaga is fundamentally physical, insisting on a specific process of embodiment. Inside this shared research, the improvisational nature of the exploration enables each participant's deeply personal connection with Gaga.
