Wanderung: Von Balgstädt zum Hirschrodaer Graben
In the organizer's words:
Historic trails, an impressive abandoned site, and breathtaking views
Hiking Trip: From Balgstädt to the Hirschrodaer Graben
What to Expect
We’ll meet at the main train station in Halle and travel together to Balgstädt, where our historic loop hike begins. From the train station, we’ll set off along historic trails and follow the old postal road to the mysterious ruins of Toppendorf. From there, the trail leads us to a true natural gem: the unique nature reserve and sanctuary known as the “Hirschrodaer Graben.” We’ll walk around this wild natural phenomenon and reach the idyllic linear village of Hirschroda. From there, we’ll climb up to Wurmberg, which offers a magnificent view of the entire route of our tour and, once again, back toward the Toppendorf ruins. On the way back to Balgstädt, another visual highlight awaits us: a fantastic panoramic view of the majestic limestone slopes directly across from us, below the Zscheiplitz Monastery. An all-around fascinating tour full of history and sweeping vistas!

About Me
Hey, I’m Thomas, a certified hiking guide with the German Hiking Association and a passionate hiker. My heart beats for the wonderful landscapes of my home region—whether it’s the Saale-Unstrut, the (Southern) Harz, or the Lower Saale Valley. From Halle, it often takes less than an hour to reach breathtaking natural and cultural landscapes just waiting to be discovered. My favorites: quiet trails, ancient places of power, and the most beautiful views. I’d love to share my passion with you and invite you to come along—into the breathtaking, mysterious, and beautiful nature right on your doorstep. I’d be thrilled to have you join me!
Why I Love This Tour
This tour captivates me with its deep historical character and striking contrasts. The Hirschrodaer Graben feels like a hidden refuge, and the final view of the bright limestone slopes of Zscheiplitz is, for me, one of the most beautiful vistas in the Unstrut Valley.
