About the Artist
Judith Bokodi’s figurative and representational painting is inspired by modern photorealism
and the magic of still-life painting. Her own photographs serve as a starting point, which are
freely adapted and interpreted. The media gaze becomes a mirror, a constructor of our
inner worlds—with our images of ourselves and the visual sequences from films,
our experiences, expectations, and longings.

The themes of Judith Bokodi’s works are everyday scenes and dream sequences—a bar at night,
reflections in the headlights of vintage cars and retro coffee makers, the magic of light falling on bottles,
glasses, and chrome-plated surfaces. These reflections serve as a magical representation of a scene.

The artist often zooms in extremely close on details, magnifying them until the subject or model becomes unrecognizable,
and abstract patterns emerge.
In this way, she creates atmospheric depth and tension and expands conventional perspectives.
Through her use of shine and reflection, her paintings appear poetic and enigmatic.
Her interplay with perspective and composition lends her paintings an abstract quality.
