„Unser Schnütgen“: Buchpremiere mit der Kölner Ex-Dombaumeisterin Barbara Schock-Werner und Joachim Frank

“Our Schnütgen”—in their new book, Barbara Schock-Werner and Joachim Frank embark on a personal journey of discovery through the Cologne museum of the same name. For lovers of medieval art, it is one of three must-visit destinations worldwide—along with the “Cloisters” at the Metropolitan Museum in New York and the Musée de Cluny in Paris. It’s wonderful that the Schnütgen is practically right on the doorstep for people from Cologne and the surrounding region.

This unique new museum guide, to be published on August 20 by Cologne’s Greven-Verlag, is based on the authors’ proven, multi-award-winning collaboration at the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger.” In December 2025, Schock-Werner and Frank published a daily Advent calendar featuring 24 works of art from Cologne’s museums, including several pieces from the Schnütgen.

For the book’s launch, they selected their favorites from among the more than 50 entries. “There are works here that rightly establish the Schnütgen’s reputation far beyond Cologne. But we’re also showcasing the hidden gems that are often unfairly overlooked. And we went down into the storage area with the museum staff specifically to bring the treasures kept there into the spotlight as well.”
