Typografie für Anfänger: Schrift zeichnen, nicht nur schreiben

Noch niemand hat sich das Event gemerkt.

In the organizer's words:

This course covers the basics of typography—in an accessible, practical way, with plenty of time for drawing and experimenting. We view type not just as text, but as form: How does a letter look? Why does a typeface appear elegant, playful, bold, or calm? What makes type easy to read? And how can it become part of a drawing, map, or small design?

Together, we’ll explore the impact of type, letterforms, spacing, rhythm, composition, and the connection between typography and illustration. Step by step, you’ll learn to observe letters more consciously, arrange words more harmoniously, and use type purposefully in your own creative projects.

The course is held in a small group to ensure there’s enough time for individual guidance, questions, and personalized feedback. The focus isn’t on perfection or rigid rules, but on developing a keen eye, enjoying the creative process, and completing your own small final project.

Course Content:

• Seeing and understanding type more consciously

• The difference between typography, lettering, calligraphy, and handwriting

• Viewing letters as drawn forms

• Basics of letter anatomy

• Spacing, rhythm, and white space

• The impact of type and appropriate design

• Small typographic compositions

• Combining type and illustration

• Developing Your Own Small Project

About the Instructor:

Antje Schubert is an illustrator, designer, and founder of süssmädchen. For over 10 years, she has been personalizing jewelry and accessories by hand, working daily with letters, words, and small messages.

Through her work and her own drawing practice, she has developed a keen sense of how much expression is contained in lettering—through form, line, spacing, composition, and impact. Her workshop focuses on drawing: letters are not merely observed, but understood as shapes, sketched, experimented with, and creatively developed.

Who is this workshop for?

The course is for anyone who enjoys drawing, designing, keeping a sketchbook, creating cards, simply appreciates beautiful letters, or wants to incorporate lettering more consciously into their creative work—in a practical, accessible way with plenty of room to experiment.

No prior experience is necessary!

Everything is explained step by step. You don’t need to be able to draw perfectly or have particularly beautiful handwriting. All that matters is curiosity, a passion for design, and a love of experimentation.

By the end, you’ll take home new fundamentals, practical exercises, greater confidence in working with type, and your very own little typographic project.
