Tomate, Fahrrad, Guillotine – Lesung mit Historikerin Dr. Kerstin Wolff
In the organizer's words:
A journey through the history of women, documented through 30 objects. What do a coffee filter, a tomato, and the guillotine have in common? All three tell a fascinating story about women and their struggle for equality—whether political, legal, or personal. Using these objects, Dr. Kerstin Wolff illustrates how women’s lives in Germany and Central Europe have changed over time and what that means for today’s society. In a style that is both entertaining and well-researched, Wolff guides us through history. She explains, for example, how shared living arrangements, soccer, and even the bicycle have all played a part in women’s emancipation. The insights into women’s past presented in her book show just how far we’ve come on the path to gender equality, but also how long the road still is that lies ahead of us.
Dr. Kerstin Wolff is a historian, heads the research department at the Archive of the German Women’s Movement, and is a lecturer at the University of Kassel. She has been researching the history of women and their emancipation in 19th- and 20th-century Germany for over 20 years.
A reading that highlights just how much ground still needs to be made up when it comes to gender equality.
