Literary Salon with Insa Stuckenbröker and Christian Knäpper

The 54th Grüner Salon Bielefeld will take the form of a literary salon and feature a staged reading of excerpts from the correspondence between Ingeborg Bachmann and Heinrich Böll. The occasion for this collaborative event on Friday, July 10, at 7:30 p.m., held in partnership with and at the City Library, is the 100th anniversary of Bachmann’s birth. The correspondence does not merely address the literary ambitions of these two world-renowned authors. It also addresses the challenges of everyday life as a writer in the postwar decades and the interactions with editors, publishers, and publishing houses. The well-known Bielefeld acting duo Insa Stuckenbröker and Christian Knäpper will present selected letters in a staged reading. These insights into the lives of Bachmann and Böll in Germany, Italy, and Ireland will be contextualized and annotated by two experts on the subject: Markus Schäfer and Maria Birger of the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Berlin and Cologne, who will accompany the reading with commentary and analysis. This selection of letters has already been performed to great acclaim at the Burgtheater in Vienna. The event will be accompanied by piano music from Dirk Güllemann. A beverage bar will also contribute to a successful evening. This reading marks the second collaborative event between the City Library and the Grüner Salon, following the well-attended reading of Heinrich Böll’s *Katharina Blum*. Angelika Teller and Anke Schmidt will host the event. Tickets are available at the Box Office and through the City Library’s online advance ticket sales.
