Stoffwechselgesänge – ein szenischer Sommerabend-Spaziergang

Did you know that najads aren’t just mythological water nymphs, but freshwater mussels that help keep our waters clean? That lichens—those botanical masters of survival—are formed through a symbiotic relationship between fungi and algae? That ladybugs suffer from compulsive eating and sexual behavior? Or that there’s a fungus called Cordyceps that drives ants mad?

With this year’s summer theater production, “Stoffwechselgesänge” (Metabolic Chants), Sprechkunst Dortmund e. V.explores nature’s astonishing phenomena—with humorous texts, acrobatic wordplay, and mysterious chants. Nature itself provides the stage for this scenic summer evening stroll.

In an entertaining and vivid way, visitors discover: Everything is alive—and everything that lives is interconnected and communicates with one another. By ponds, behind bushes, under trees, there is singing and sound—like an underground network of roots, the scenes are interwoven, and sounds blend into one another. The spoken chorus rushes like water, smacks contentedly against the earth, breathes in unison with the universe, and banter with mushrooms. Love triumphs—and so does the immortal tardigrade.

The tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours. The audience walks along the park paths and pauses to stand at the stations. Sturdy shoes are recommended, and if needed, you may bring a lightweight folding chair.
