Städteklang Den Haag – Köln
In the organizer's words:
Two choirs—one sound: In today’s concert, Cantamus Alati from The Hague and the Cologne Oratorio Choir come together to present an entertaining program:
Herman Finkers: Missa Sancti Georgii
Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy: “Wer nur den lieben Gott lässt walten”
Antonio Vivaldi: Gloria in D
Ola Gjeilo: The Road
Both choirs look back on (nearly) 70 years of choral history and will present works spanning musical history today: Herman Finkers —one of the Netherlands’ best-known cabaret artists—composed the Missa Sancti Georgii in 1990 for his wedding ceremony. It was a huge success and has been performed regularly ever since. Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s chorale cantata *Wer nur den lieben Gott lässt walten* transports us to the Romantic era, yet it also offers a glimpse into how deeply the composer engaged with the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria is a true gem of the Baroque era—lively, short, and crisp. Finally, Ola Gjeilo takes us to his homeland with ethereal sounds. The Road, composed in 1990, is his tribute to Norway’s impressive landscapes.
