Sophia Fritz: Der Mann, das Opfer
In the organizer's words:
Men still hold many positions of power in politics, business, and society. At the same time, a different picture emerges: Many men struggle to allow themselves to feel emotions, take responsibility in relationships, or talk about their vulnerability. They withdraw, remain silent, or lose touch with others—and often with themselves as well.
Drawing on the early death of her brother, Sophia Fritz explores the question of what it means to be a man today. She examines societal notions of masculinity and shows how these not only harm others but also the men themselves. Why do so many men find it so difficult to allow themselves to be close to others? Why are weakness and vulnerability still perceived as flaws? Following her highly acclaimed book*Toxic Femininity*, Sophia Fritz turns her attention to the dark side of traditional images of masculinity. In doing so, she critiques patriarchal structures without passing judgment. Instead, she invites us to envision new forms of masculinity—more open, freer, and more human. A thoughtful and empathetic book about gender roles, vulnerability, and the possibility of change.
Sophia Fritzstudiedscreenwriting and dramaturgy at the Film Academy in Munich.
