As summer slowly gives way to late summer, Dresden’s Kreuzkirche offers a moment to pause and savor the moment. On Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., the impressive church interior will open its doors for the first vespers of the new concert season. Under the theme “An Hour of Heavenly Music,” a diverse program awaits you, blending tradition with a breath of fresh air.

The focus is on the timeless beauty of diverse vocal music, performed by the Dresden men’s choir ensemble Sonus Aeternus. The thirteen former members of the Kreuzchor share a musical rapport forged over many years, which is palpable in every note. Their repertoire effortlessly spans masterpieces of the Renaissance, through the rich sounds of the Romantic era, to modern works by Ola Gjeilo as well as pieces specially arranged by artistic director Anton Matthes. Together with Albert Hübner at the organ, they create an atmospheric opening that allows the hustle and bustle of everyday life to fade away for an hour.
