Skinshape
In the organizer's words:
Skinshape is the studio project of British musician and producer William Dorey, whose work stems from a deep exploration of historical soundscapes. The music draws on influences from funk, reggae, psychedelic rock, folk, and library music of the 1960s and 70s, blending them into a distinctive, timeless aesthetic.
The starting point for this sound is less an orientation toward current trends and more an interest in sound, texture, and atmosphere. Skinshape moves between organic grooves, analog timbres, and a deliberately minimalist production style that emphasizes mood and musical depth.
A defining feature is a creative approach that brings together different musical traditions without completely dissolving them. Instead of clear genre categorization, the result is an open sound that draws on various references but translates them into its own understated stylistic language.
Live, this project is brought to life by a five-piece band that transposes the pieces into a new context and lends them additional dynamism. The songs evolve through ensemble playing and timing, carried by rhythm, a sense of space, and a clear sonic identity.
At the New Fall Festival, this live setting meets a space that brings precisely these qualities to the fore: focused listening, sonic subtleties, and an atmosphere in which the music can fully unfold.
