On September 18, 2026, Hamburg’s Birdland will celebrate the music of D’Angelo.

“Salute to the King – Celebrating the Music of D’Angelo” pays tribute to an artist who redefined soul, funk, and R&B with just a few albums. His sound captivates with its depth, groove, and uncompromising musicality—and remains influential to this day.

On this evening, five musicians will interpret his songs with their own unique styles: Will Jacobs brings his blues-rooted voice and guitar, while Boti Ikvai-Szabó adds elements of soul, Afrobeat, and jazz. Gabriel “Gab” Denhoff provides the characteristic depth of the pieces on the keyboard, while Martin Stumpf and Uwe Berwanger lay down the rhythmic foundation that gives D’Angelo’s music its distinctive groove.
