SAGA isa Canadian rock band that was founded in 1977 in Oakville, Ontario. Formed by bassist Jim Crichton and singer/keyboardist Michael Sadler—along with Ian Crichton, Steve Negus, and Peter Rochon—the group has been delivering a distinctive blend of melodic progressive rock, complex synthesizer arrangements, and catchy guitar riffs for more than four decades. 

The current lineup in 2026 consists of Michael Sadler (lead vocals and keyboards), Ian Crichton (guitar), Jim Gilmour (keyboards), drummer Mike Thorne, and bassist Mike Borkosky. On September 8, 2027, the five musicians will perform live at Circus Krone in Munich.

Beloved by an extremely loyal fan base spread across Canada, the U.S., Germany, Scandinavia, and the rest of the world, they are considered something of an open secret. Walking the fine line between “never heard of them” and “been following them since I was a kid,” they enjoy the rare freedom of being both a niche band and a popular one. 

Listeners who delve deeper into their history usually start with their self-titled debut album, released on April 8, 1978—followed by *Images at Twilight* (1979) and *Silent Knight* (1980). The band achieved their major breakthrough with *Worlds Apart* (1981), an album certified gold in the U.S., which spawned the radio and MTV hits “On the Loose” (No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100; strong chart positions in Canada and Europe) and “Wind Him Up.” This wave of success earned the band the 1982 Juno Award in the “Most Promising Group of the Year” category. Subsequent albums such as *Heads or Tales* (1983) delivered further hits with tracks like “The Flyer,” while the band maintained a steady release schedule—with a total of 22 studio albums as well as various live recordings and compilations. 

Over time, they created “The Chapters”—a large-scale, conceptual sci-fi song cycle that spanned several albums. SAGA has sold more than ten million albums worldwide, received numerous gold and platinum certifications, and toured extensively—particularly in Europe and Germany, where their music remains a fixture in the charts and on stage to this day. Their extensive catalog—including remastered reissues and current releases—is available via *ear Music* as well as on all major streaming platforms. 

The band’s passionate fan base remains active online and warmly welcomes new members. The official SAGA Facebook group (a public group with nearly 20,000 members) serves as a vibrant gathering place where fans—both old and new—can share music, concert memories, photos, and discussions.
