Preview MELKUS RS 1000

In the organizer's words:

The "Ferrari of the East" moves in with us

We have a prominent new addition to our collection: a MELKUS RS 1000 - the only series-produced sports car in the GDR, developed and built in Dresden.

Only 101 examples of this extraordinary vehicle were built between 1969 and 1979. We are therefore all the more delighted that we have been able to acquire a MELKUS RS 1000 from the Melkus family, number 31, which is largely in its original condition.

The MELKUS RS 1000 stands for Dresden engineering, passion for racing and creative inventiveness like almost no other vehicle. With its striking gullwing doors, flat silhouette and sporty design, it became a legend even in GDR times and was nicknamed the "Ferrari of the East" for good reason.

Before the MELKUS becomes a permanent part of our revised permanent road traffic exhibition from spring 2027, we will be showing it in an exclusive preview at the Dresden Transport Museum from June 10 from 1 pm until June 21, 2026.

Take the opportunity to experience the legendary MELKUS RS 1000 up close. Discover a piece of Dresden's automotive history and take a look at the "Ferrari of the East".
