PHRE Residency w/ Sandy Chamoun x Anthony Shayoun x Simon Popp x Dumama

[DE] What happens when four musicians who have never played together before come together? Four people from different social realities.

In the PHRE Residency, Sandy Chamoun and Anthony Shayoun (Lebanon), Dumama (South Africa), and Simon Popp (Munich) come together: four artistic approaches spanning composition, poetry, sound art, performance, jazz drums, loop machines, and electronic effects.

Shaped by everything from the current crises in Lebanon to postcolonial and diasporic perspectives in South Africa, they bring their respective backgrounds into a shared creative process.
Over the course of several days, a collective sound emerges from improvisation, listening, and exchange. The performance becomes a snapshot of this encounter: raw, immediate, and unrepeatable.

In the PHRE Residency, Sandy Chamoun and Anthony Sahyoun (Lebanon), Dumama (South Africa), and Simon Popp (Munich) come together: four artistic approaches spanning composition, poetry, sound art, performance, jazz drumming, loop stations, and electronic effects.

Influenced by everything from the ongoing crises in Lebanon to postcolonial and diasporic perspectives in South Africa, they weave their unique backgrounds into a collaborative creative process. Over several days of improvisation, listening, and exchange, a collective sound emerges. The performance becomes a snapshot of this encounter: raw, immediate, and unrepeatable.

Carl Gari (Germany)

[DE] Moving between guitars and electronic sounds, the trio functions as an inseparable creative unit that strives to develop its own distortion of reality. Moving beyond genre conventions, Carl Gari focuses on aesthetics, moods, and states of tension, developing sound as a physical and psychological space.

Kiawash (Munich/Iran)

[DE] The co-founder of the Orbital Reflector collective explores the niches of electronic music. Each set creates an experimental musical experience.

Mazza Mazza (Italy)

[DE] Mazza Mazza rides his bike all the way from South Tyrol. As a longtime friend, musical companion, and tireless treasure hunter, he has inspired Import Export from the very beginning. Some of the most beautiful discoveries on the PHRE stage are thanks to him. His collection includes sounds he’s gathered while traveling and attending festivals: plenty of leftfield music, many rarities from Merano, all the way around the Mediterranean to Izmir.

[EN] Mazza Mazza cycles in from South Tyrol. As a long-standing friend, musical companion, and tireless treasure hunter, he has inspired Import Export right from the start.
Some of the finest discoveries on the PHRE stage are down to him. His collection features sounds he has gathered whilst traveling and attending festivals: plenty of leftfield music, lots of rarities from Merano, all the way round the Mediterranean to Izmir.
