Sandström »Matthäus-Passion« mit Philharmonischer Chor Berlin

“When I started out, I wanted to create a new St. Matthew Passion, using the same text. But one that was completely different—and in my own style.” Sandström’s love for Bach’s St. Matthew Passion inspired him to “recompose” the work. The text, so familiar to our ears, is presented in a new musical guise. For the world premiere of his monumental work on February 16, 2014, at the Philharmonie Berlin, the Swedish composer chose conductor Stefan Parkman, the Berlin Philharmonic Choir, and the Uppsala Academic Chamber Choir. Sandström combines modern harmony with Baroque structures, thereby creating a fascinating dialogue between tradition and contemporary music.
