Peter Bernstein Quartet

Peter Bernstein, born in New York in 1967, is a guitarist at the interface of jazz tradition and modernity. His instrumental colleague Jim Hall brought the young jazz guitar student on stage for a concert at the renowned JVC Jazz Festival in New York in 1990. Since then, Bernstein has appeared on around 300 albums as a guitarist, 14 of which he has released under his own name. As the leader of his own bands as well as a guest of musicians such as Lou Donaldson, Brad Mehldau and Diana Krall, he has performed on many club, concert and festival stages around the world. For some time now, his quartet, including pianist Sullivan Fortner, has been the focus of his work. In their modern jazz, this foursome focuses on a casual, straight-ahead swing, the themes of the pieces becoming the basis for an eloquently phrased, imaginative art of improvisation. The interplay of the rhythm section sounds so harmonious and tight that it allows the crystalline sound of the leader on the archtop jazz guitar to shine and adequately underpins his single-note lines.
