Oversabi Aunty / Nigeria 2025
Toun is a woman of unshakable principles. The Yoruba woman works as a church attendant; she is married to an Igbo man, and the couple has four children. Not only at home does Toun always know best, is always right, and keep everyone on their toes with the resulting tasks! But her strict rule begins to falter—of all places—at a wedding, causing massive chaos within the huge family…
In this film,Toyin Abraham takes on the roles of lead actress, director, producer, and screenwriter all at once: perhaps these conditions were necessary to bring to life such a powerful comedy that tears down the masks of religious hypocrisy to tell the story of a family feud playing out on the fine line between faith and blind fanaticism.
Nigerian audiences have rewarded Toyin Abraham’s courage in making a film—both entertaining and dramatic—about tribalism and generational conflicts in modern-day Lagos at the box office. *Oversabi Aunty* was a huge success among all age groups and ethnic communities, even beyond Nigeria’s borders!
