Tragedy of listening

A fascinating mixture of opera, sound installation and musical experiment: Luigi Nono's "Prometeo" is the highlight of this season's Prometheus focus and also the Italian avant-garde composer's magnum opus. Under the direction of Nono specialist François-Xavier Roth, the SWR Symphonieorchester transforms the concert hall into a multi-dimensional sound space - a unique listening experience between music, space and silence. For Nono, the focus is not on the radiant hero who brings fire to mankind, but on the existential search for knowledge and meaning: "Prometheus is above all a big problem: the will for the other." The composer paints the picture of a lonely traveler roaming through unknown soundscapes. The result is a musical archipelago whose islands consist of texts by Hesiod, Aeschylus, Friedrich Hölderlin, Walter Benjamin and others - each fragment opens up a new perspective on the myth.
