In spring 2026, the Ernst Schering Foundation presents the exhibition Rehearsal Room by the Chilean artist Nicole L'Huillier, who lives in Berlin. The title Rehearsal Room means both rehearsal room and a special type of sound environment: with the help of composition, sounds produced by artificial intelligence and vocals, L'Huillier transforms the Foundation's exhibition space into a place of experimentation. She puts visitors in the mood to experience a different kind of reality, the world of dreaming.
The sounds are selected and arranged in such a way that they are transferred to the visitors; their brain activity and heartbeat vibrate in time with the soothing tones and frequencies. In this way, a threshold and synchronization space is created, which on the one hand offers peace and retreat and on the other hand enables visitors to consciously engage in unfamiliar physical and cognitive experiences. To create a coherent soundscape, the artist interweaves digitally generated sounds with voice, song and recordings from nature.
Rehearsal Room is a kind of sleep laboratory and at the same time an immersive experiential space that focuses on acoustics, technology and resonance. This exhibition is about physical listening and engaging with unconscious processes and phenomena.
